Well, this is what is going strong presently over the Web. Various vendors are making available online some training materials on various topics from beginners to advance. Despite the fact that those online training may not regroup all the benefits of attending a training session, in a conference for example, such as interaction with other attendees, ability to ask questions, etc., they do provide some nice materials combined with some other advantages. Some of them are the ability to decide when you want to take those training and only the specific parts that you are interested in.
As it is the case with various vendors, the Universal Thread has evolved in that direction by providing a series of videos on Visual FoxPro training from beginners to advance on various topics such as Client/Server, .Net for VFP developers and ActiveX controls. From various stores on the Web, such as we provide here, you are able to choose which topics you would like to get some training on and that's all is required to learn something new. In a few minutes, you can gain access to the videos you wanted, download them and you're ready to go. In most of the cases, the vendors offer videos that are ready to play without installing anything. You can watch them anytime you want and stop them, if you are interrupted and continue later for example.
This morning, I started my day by watching two videos on .Net for VFP developers. In less than 50 minutes, I learned a lot of things. .Net for VFP didn't seem to be such a mystery for me anymore. It was a great investment in such a short time. Not only was I able to replay specific portions of it, in order to pay attention more to other items I missed in the first occurrence, but I was able to take a few phone calls to switch to some other work I had to do while the video was in pause mode.
See those videos as additional tools to increase your skills and not as a replacement of other types of training you may have attended before at specific location. As it is the case when attending a conference, for example, some nice advantages are present in this type of training as well.
Do you know Rock 'n' Rio? So, you must attend the "VFP Rocks in Rio!"
On July 27-28, was another VFP mini-conference in Brazil. This time, the location was Minas Gerais. It was a big success, with 46 attendees, who were astonished with the content they saw at the sessions. Now, it's time to say "VFP Rocks" in Rio de Janeiro. Yes, this is where the Fox developers will gather on August 17-18. See more details at http://www.rapozine.com.br/InscricaoEventoRJ.asp.
From English to Portuguese to Spanish
As you may have seen, the Universal Thread, in the recent months, has enhanced a lot its interface to provide as close as it can a customized interface for English, Portuguese and Spanish. When it first started, only the support area was providing the ability for a member to adjust his profile in order to select the interface. Then, we initiated by creating some special edition forums for the Visual FoxPro developers. So, content was then created in the proper language within a corresponding interface. We first did it for the Visual FoxPro developers, as this is our most traffic so far. However, as the demand keeps increasing, we will do the same for other forums. Then, we released the Portuguese and Spanish versions of our monthly magazine - the UTMag/RapoZine magazine. This was followed by a front end interface to the main Universal Thread site for each of those two interfaces and then a dynamic ability to switch from anywhere to another language, where applicable. This ability is available from outside the support area by the use of the upper right links to switch to the other two interfaces. More and more we will try to complete our content translation. In most case now, you will be able to get the corresponding content. As months go by, we should get closer to our goal by having about 90% of our content to be available in any interface.
