I thought about that. But how do I indicate to the report that I want to SUM only records in Detail 1?

Thank you for your help.

>Basically, when you add second band, report writer doubles number of 'processed' records so your total certainly goes astray (could be twice more).

>>>>>>The report has two bands. The total of a column of band1 is a variable that is supposed to SUM a value of a field. The field name is unique to the Band1 (header of the report). Band2 shows detailed items and no totals. But the Sum Total variable prints a much higher number. The "Variable to Store" on the Variables tab of the report designer shows the field name without the alias.
