Not a book, but have look at rep2excel here in downloads.
It is excel automation class which makes writing excel sheets very easy. Excel become 3d array
and you poke values as you wish. One of method calls there covers formatting of cells.

Tip; Record macro while formatting cell way you want.
Then read macro, take resulting format from there and pass it to methd that does formatting.
