I don't think it was an unfair putdown. Maybe incompetent / insufficient / inadequate / unprofessional / inappropriate / incongruous / unbecoming / maladroit / malapropos were too many syllables for Mike when he had to make a point for a duffer like me.

You want my honest opinion in a nutshell - sad.

They had an opportunity an appear to be blowing it and that's not something to laugh about. Sometimes we do joke around though because it can be cathartic.
