If I read about some legal ruling which I consider outrageous, are my only choices to start my own judicial system or be quiet about it?

This award is announced by people who have no special legislative rights or entitlement to do so apart from the gumption to make the announcement and carry it through. If somebody doesn't agree with the process they are equally free to appoint their own committee or run an election or do whatever they please. This seems different from effectively seceding because you don't like a legal ruling.

FWIW I did protest a previous award that was called a "community" award (which this one is not) but had procedural difficulties IMHO. I also dissuaded somebody who was about to announce more lifetime achievement awards won by Crunchie the Clown with JVP as runner-up. ;-) This time it's still not perfect but at least there's a call for nominations and if the community appointee is acceptable, at least there is an independent person confirming that it's not just a pantomime. Hopefully somebody suitable will raise their hand. How about you?
"... They ne'er cared for us
yet: suffer us to famish, and their store-houses
crammed with grain; make edicts for usury, to
support usurers; repeal daily any wholesome act
established against the rich, and provide more
piercing statutes daily, to chain up and restrain
the poor. If the wars eat us not up, they will; and
there's all the love they bear us.
