Since I never used those (last time I installed Word was in 2003, IIRC), I stuck to my practice of running the SP1 of the previous version of Windowses (I went W7 in 2014 :), and accepting no updates at all. Lived without problems until a month ago.

I don't know about that - I saw a large number of security patches that where for the windows 7 OS - and they're have been several for windows 10 already. I would be afraid to use it after they quit releasing updates myself. If there is a flaw discovered (which of course there will be) then you're kinda crewed.
