Ways to avoid quitting and restarting the app after a sleep

When I put my tablet to sleep, HipChat can no longer reconnect. Even if I try to click on the red notification to reconnect, at the top, this will not work. I have to quit the application and restart it in order for it to recover from the sleep mode. Is there anyone who can confirm if when going in sleep mode you have the same behavior?
