For what it's worth, I use FileZilla and haven't had a problem with it.

Also - you mentioned Comcast. I realize it's not always possible to switch providers, but I have used both Comcast and Verizon FIOS and I find Verizon's technology to be better. Neither side will win awards for customer service, but FIOS is (IMO) much better.
