My two cents.

- Some of the top authors from a few years ago are now publishing courses on Pluralsight. (I had opportunities to write some, but have just been too busy with other things.) Some of the top Pluralsight authors are making more $$$ than they ever made on books.

- Technology changes more rapidly than it did during the heydays of Fox. That's not a criticism of Fox - just a reality. Let's take Power BI for instance. A few people are publishing books on Power BI - I'm sure the books are good, but too much changes in the technology by the time the book is available.

- Related: it's easier to produce webcasts and blog entries/online articles and in some cases keep them current with the technology.

- I wrote one book and contributed a few chapters to a second one. I have no intentions of writing a book again and I know a few authors who feel the same way. The entire model has changed.

IMO, there is far more available information now on certain technologies than there ever existed in books - it's just a matter of finding the information, since it's spread across many areas.
