Like Barbara I use a Textbox instead of a label for dynamic text like this. Try adding a DOEVENTS (you might also try a INKEY(0.01) after the thisform.Refresh() to give VFP a chance to really paint the screen before the SQL takes over and stops the repaints.

>You know I did try using a textbox and using the refresh method on it. It seemed like a more elegant solution than opening another form for half a second but I still get the same results, the object is not refreshed until after the SQL code executes. My only concern is if this behavior is not limited objects being refreshed on the form. We do a lot of VFP apps here at Caltrans and I am going to ask the other consultants if they have run into this problem. Thanks for your response.
