If I create an application in VC++ (& most other languages) & run the application, I don't get the development environment window open up too. Also, unlike Word & Excel in your example, if I close the main form, the Foxpro window disappears - if I close all the documents in Word & Excel the enclosing window, as you yourself state, does not disappear.

Len,

When you run a VFP app in runtime, you do NOT get the development environment window. You get the VFP _SCREEN. It is perfectly acceptable to have this window up and running in an application. What Fox does is EXACTLY like Word and Excel and many other Windows applications. Windows even has a name for it. It's called the "Application Background".
