Absolutely, look at Generics, Java has generics and now .NET has a better runtime implementation than Java's (the benifit of not having to do it first ;-)) however I bet the development of such a feature has come from all the C++ guys saying "where is our template support?" and not from the fact that Java has got an implementation of generics.
