Thomas,

>With desktop machines I'ld second your opinion, but the Dothan-based chips are IMHO nearly as good as the AMD's. Since laptops usually have less memory, most of the arguments for the 64Bit tech won't apply. What do you especially prefer in the amd chip over the dothan ?

I don't have any experience with the Dothan chip. So I really can't say one way or the other.

>One thing to keep in mind is that for us foxpro programmers the hard disk implementation (usually mostly characterized by the chipset) can be more influential than for most office workers. And especially in laptops you sometimes find the very old chipsets in amd-cpu machines.

From my experience, disk I/O is dependent on a lot of factors other than the CPU.
