I can't answer all your questions but I am pretty sure on the last one it isn't an issue. The VS2008 IDE allows you to target frameworks either 2.x or 3.x and you only have to set which one in the framework. I would be surprised if mm only worked with 3.5. Also I am pretty sure I have read on this forum discussion about using 3.5 with VS2005. I would do a search on that and see what has been discussed already while you are waiting for Kevin to respond.
