Thanks for the suggestion. I thought of going to Stored Procedures earlier and in fact using them for small tasks.

As I mentioned in my situation, some matching happens on very large dataset (appx 30 million records). Hence we do in batches so that we can keep an eye on progress. This was the reason we bring a couple on records in VFP cursors, process, and store results. At the same time progress is monitored.
