Error building EXE, but no ERR file to explain the error

Whatever happened to cause this build to crash, I found that the DBC and/or DCT files were corrupted, as well as one of the forms in the EXE.

Fortunately, I was able to restore these from tape.

But, I wonder what happened? Any ideas?
