John, I'm not disagreeing with what you're saying, but let me ask this...a question that a politician is likely never to touch...

How would you feel about a change to IRS regs where health care costs were a fully deductible expense, without having to itemize, and wiithout being subjected to a 7% “floor”. Would you not agree this would provide immediate relief for the uninsured and place them on a tax equal (or comparable) footing with those that have tax advantaged plans through their employers?
