You forgot a few points, some of which may be different here than in your country

He will have to work every day, or he won't get any "allowance", which is a very small amount
He will be the hate object of all the other inmates
He will have to live in a very little room most of the day
He will have no choice of meals, take today's meal or be hungry
He will have to eat most of his meals in solitude

I strongly feel that letting him die, whether he kills himself or if he is executed, would be like letting him go without getting properly punished. Now he will see that his dream is crushed, and that it was all done in vain. And every July 22nd, which will be a national mourning day for many years to come, he will be reminded of how much he is hated, and how futile his actions were. Instead of being a martyr for his crazy followers, he will be an eternal loser for all. I find that a far better punishment.
