That depends on what you are trying to do. These equate to "Arial" vs "Times New Roman" With this difference. If you have the wrong one, the bar code reader won'e be able to understand it.

The key thing is that the settings for the bar code reader, and the font you are using match. We use EAN here, but we're scanning books, and that is the defacto standard in the book industry.

Start with the reader, and explain to the sales rep what you are trying to do. We use Symbol readers here, but there are other good manufacturers as well.
