COMCodebook: Sample Application
Y. Alan Griver, ECWise
This zip file contains the Attorney Application sample that goes with the step by step guide to creating an application using COMCodebook (located in the COMCodebook download), the middle tier framework for Visual FoxPro. The document and code samples are meant to give you a detailed look of what pieces make up a distributed application written in COMCodebook as well as guide you through the process of creating a simple browser-based application from start to finish. To get the most out of these lessons, you should be relatively familiar with the n-tier model as well as active server pages and Visual FoxPro, however, it is not necessary to have any working knowledge of COMCodebook specifically.

General information
Description
COMCodebook – the middle-tier framework written in Visual FoxPro has found a new home on the UT. From www.universalthread.com, you can download the framework as well as instruction manuals, samples and articles. It has been tested with Visual FoxPro 6 Service Pack 5 and higher. It is compatible with a variety of backend databases such as SQL-Server or Oracle. It also runs in Microsoft Transaction Server (MTS) environments on NT 4.0 Systems and COM+ environments on Windows 2000 and higher. COMCodebook will work with both environments, but it is recommended that you use COM+ on Windows 2000 Server. Newest enhancements to the framework include MSMQ support, hierarchical XML generation and parsing, and better exception handling. The step-by-step guide, “Developing Apps with COMCodebook.doc”, has been updated with detailed information on these topics.
