Not sure what you're getting at. Could it be that when numeric data are treated as character, they are not in numerical order, e.g. 1, 2, 3, ... 10, 11, ... 19, 20, 21 becomes:
1, 10, 11, 12, ... 19, 2, 20, 21 ... etc.
i.e. ASCII order.
