Is it possible that one HD has cache and the other doesn't? Some HDs changed almost overnight in terms of coming without/with.

Are both HDs EIDE, or might one be SATA? A SATA drive has a different place to set this.

I also wonder if partitioning a HD might have some impact on the availability of the option. Might one be partitioned and the other not?
