I don't have a dog in this hunt, so don't take this the wrong way. I think what people mean when they say "marketing" is the way you "sell" your approach, architecture and free tool as being the best, while sometimes coming across as "trashing" the commercial tools.

FWIW, I think it's a good thing to be passionate about what you do, but some of your comments certainly have sounded like you were attacking the other tools as being inadequate compared to yours. That's what people are reacting to, along with some inaccuracies in what you posted.

I think it's great that you are making a free tool available and giving people more options.
