The changes in VFP8 and VFP9 have opened up many more possibilities, including correlated subqueries in VFP9, SELECT statement as a field in another select statement's field list, new binary index and much more.

If you don't like the "side effects," you can flip the switch between SET ENGINEBEHAVIOR 70, 80 and 90 as needed. Many people converting to VFP9 just go with ENGINEBEHAVIOR 70 at the start of the program to get things running and then work on individual "problem" queries as time permits.

VFP SQL is still flexible and easy to use, but more powerful when you need it.
