Yeah I think your right. My only thinking was if user X (who cant log on) was in a different domain to users a & b (who can log on). This would imply that the doamin the sql server was in had a trusted connection to the domain of a & b but not X. However, this argument doesnt really stand up as I would still expect sql connection to work.

I would be really interested when you resolve this if you could let me know what the problem was as its a really interesting one.
