Well there *is* as difference, however I'm failing to see what exactly. A piece of code doing a SQL select in a EXECSCRIPT() on an open alias buildin the executable is running under VFP8SP1 but fails in VFP9. Your test proves that the construction does not work in general in VFP8SP1, however I still not able to find out why it does run in my instance of VFP8SP1. I'll keep you updated when I found the key to this issue....
