I didn't understand what was the problem... once you connect to your remote server you run (automatically) an application that doesn't show your remote start button? If this is the case, then you have to minimise / maximise the application. Some applications are made in such a way that don't show the taskbar (like installation programs).

If, on the other hand, you are wondering where your original (local) taskbar went, then press CTRL-ALT-PAUSE/BREAK (if my memory serves me right) to minimize your RDP session.
