If Kevin and John and JVP are pretending to convert (really it's a re-write) to NOT then they should just do it.

Point 2 - not many developers that I know are in the market for a conversion course - they may go to a survey seminar - but usually they get in front of their computer - go to the W3C or other geek info blogs and do it.

AND they would never brag that they cannot do it by hailing a third parties service [on this board of all places] as the break through they needed. In short - they just don't have the drive or ambition [kills/mentality?] to do it right on their own - whether it be VFP or DO('n)T NOT!

This whole conversion seminar thing I guess is for those old shops that were saying move to VB, VFP is dying - and by the way we have books and devcon (artists:) and programmers that we will sell you to help you along.

Guess what - VB is dead - so they market to the next infrastructure tool the MS is hawking - and deliver eulogies to VFP [again] as the buffet shrimp chunks fall from their talking mouths to the carpet of a conference room in Redmond.

Now it's DOT NOT - and the same old faces are here preying on almost "a developer" types with a big inferiority complex, unable to deleiver their VFP projects and worried about their boss's notice of their lack luster production - it's pretty hard to put enough lipstick on a FPW project that's been recompiled up through all the VFP versions to make it look any thing less than a pig - or at least what it really is, an FPW program.

So here the the teachers and prophets of VFPs doom, playing on the ignorant an d incontinent FPW developers who charge their boss for slaming browse windows on a screen (I guess a VFP [re]compile of an FPW program's screen could be bolstered to the claim of a form), offering salvation to those who can't perform with the promise of a "reason" for not being able to deliver: "convince your boss or customers that the reason your VFP project sucks is because it's not DO['n]T NOT!" - that should get them another 6 months to a year of pretending to be productive.

These conversion shops don't write applications - they sell snake oil, books and seminars to un productive - i-need-an-excuse-for-not-being-able-to-do-it-myself wanna be's. A "real" programmer would do it hisself - and would never, NEVER, hire an out of house shop to do a rewrite for them.

Call me proud - but I would just dig down and learn. I would never put myself in a position to buy from others what I should be able to learn for myself.

Point 3) DOT NOT work is all going off-shore - time to hang the hat on productivity and innovation - because the "change-in-technology" gambit is about to flatten out into the dribbled drone of a dry-drunk white-paper pounder!

It's a con - though innocent - that preys on the looser image these developers[?] have fallen into by blaming VFP for all their woes. I don't need a seminar to learn a new platform - do you?

Feel better, Terry
Yes - but my fingers smell like fish!:-)
