I think you make too big a deal about all the "uproar" anybody that disagrees with you is causing. The vfp market has been shrinking since MS bought Fox, but, who cares? I think most developers here, even if they're staunchly pro fox, have dabbled in other languages for a variety of reasons. You assume everyone needs to run around scared and learn the latest form MS just for job security. Not everyone is in the same boat as you...
>I know that you talk about your foray into Java, C#. And you try to base your discussions on technical merits, real or perceived. However, you must agree that many of those who are most vocal fit into the paranoid mold.
>
>It is obvious that they are concerned about nothing other then someone using other then VFP. That is what is causing the whole argument. I do take great offense at their statements for 2 reasons:
>
>1) They belong to the VFP cult. And feel they should be able to decide what is said/not said here based on their own feeling. Which typically don't don't have too much basis in reality. I.E. VFP has a continually shrinking base. It was even stated by MS that new versions of VFP will be marketed to the existing VFP base.
>2) Even more so, I am highly offended by others trying to censor what is apropriate for me to see. In essence they are saying that I am not capable of making decisions on my own. I should be hidden from any messages about other tools I might use. They are qualified to decide what messages I should see.

>>Perry,

>>I've told you before that I don't need the lecture about VFP's direction. Look in the wiki, the archives or wherever you like, I started saying all this stuff almost a decade ago.
>>
>>I use VFP where it is approproiate. In my judgement there are lots of circumstances where that is the case. MS agrees with at least one of them and I'm waiting to see how they address it. In 2005, I continue to use VFP for such work because that makes most sense.
>>
>>As you note, VFP is not a religion but it is a valuable asset to all those who invested time and effort to learn it. If such people perceive advantages or niches where VFP makes sense, you have to expect that some will want to defend their investment when others trash it. This is human nature.
>>
>>IMHO all the scoffing and name-calling is pyrrhic. You may win a battle of words or completely trash somebody, but that does not assist progression towards dotNET which I understand you espouse as your goal. Surely we can agree on that.
