Still think it's 'big-brotherish' of Google though - I'm perfectly capable of deciding whether I should accept a zipped EXE. If all providers starting taking this line then if would be a real pain - and then everyone would agree on a workaround and the whole point would be negated anyway.

It is interesting to note that some viruses already send themselves as encrypted ZIP or RAR files, with instructions similar to: "Please open the attached file - the password is 12345".
If encrypted ZIP files are not accepted by some e-mail systems, the next set of instructions will likely read something like:
Important information about your account! Please rename the attached file, "abc.tmp", to "abc.exe", before opening it.
