Have you changed database platforms as part of the move to the new application?
Have you double checked your connection strings to the backend to make sure the paths are resolving quickly?
In my load time problems for apps it has sometimes been that the app is waiting on the Windows OS to actually find the server. With a mapped drive and VFP it would not be a problem but with SQL Server I had this issue.
