The new Inprise name is supposed to reflect the company's focus on creating tools for the corporate enterprise. In the past year or two, Borland has bought two major middleware technologies, MIDAS and Visigenic, which provide viable alternatives to MS Transaction Server. The more recent, Visigenic, follows the CORBA and RMI models popular among the Java legions. Of course, you can still build COM objects for MSTS, and Inprise will also support COM+ as it evolves.
The company will retain the Borland name for the developer products, i.e. Delphi, JBuilder, etc.
