Movies are usually "cut-down" versions of the books; have to be, to fit in so-and-so-many hours. Yet I enjoyed both the Harry Potter movies, and the recent movies Lord of the Rings (in the latter, entire chapters weren't even mentioned; for example, the chapter about Tom Bombadil, and a few chapters before and after that episode).

However, according to the review you quote, it seems that in this movie they made the modifications worse than usual. Ah, well. I'll try to get the books then, or perhaps the original radio series.
