You're taking the far too easy answer, Tracy.

I haven't seen the remaining episodes yet, so I don't know where they intend to "go".

The show essentially demonstrated how the same "issue" (liberalism) was seminal for both the neo-con movement and the Islamic Fundamentalist movement. That was worth the price of admission itself!

The neo-cons were counseled to manufacture a national issue, whether they believed it or not, to galvanize the public and thus have them forego their hedonistic goals for the greater good (which, untold to them, was preserving the power of America). Communism was their first national issue, but not the same old far away scary hairy beast but rather all the small renegade groups happening all over the place promoting communism. "Projection" was the objective, of influence and power, while 'testing' whatever could be tested, weapons-wise.

When communism died (I wonder still why China was conveniently forgotten) there was a lull and the neo-cons couldn't get traction for another issue. Until 9/11.

There's no denying that there is an Al-Qaida and that Bin-Laden wants the destruction of the American (western) way of life. But (and I don't know where the program is going on this) there's no denying that the U.S. has cast its net far too widely. There is a clear connection, as I see it, between this need of the neo-cons to have a "national issue" (remember, whether they believe it or not) and their desire to protect the power of America. They NEED the people to keep very worried about "security" so that they can continue to keep the people in line while they go about flexing American muscle to assrue continued superiority.
Invading Iraq is a clear example. There was no genuine justification to invade but it was needed. Needed to allow the neo-cons to continue to solidify their support.
It was the neo-cons who dragged religion into your politics. Now there are two fronts within the U.S. Liberals are worse than communists and disagreeing on ANY "faith" issue is as close to treason as one can get! And virtually any issue now has a "faith" element in it!

These are the levers that the neo-cons use to retain/build CONTROL. Control of you and your friends and neighbours so that they can continue to strengthen the military so that they can continue to dominate so they can continue to get their hands on whatever they deem is needed by the mighty U.S.
The current price of oil, for example, only strengthens their resolve. They'll strong-arm producers and if that doesn't work well enough they'll send in the Marines. I'm betting "the people" would like to do it some other way, but at this time the neo-cons are making it clear that there is no other way.

It isn't simple at all. But it is very scary.

cheers (never heard of St. Malachy)

>>As far as the west is concerned, as I understand it so far, **WE** are being manipulated to keep us from doing what we might want to do (promote peace, eliminate weapons, feed everybody, save the environment, etc. etc.) because that would mean loss of power by the U.S.

>I have absolutely no qualms with Canada independently promoting peace, eliminating weapons, feeding the world, and saving the environment. What is stopping them?

>I agree with you entirely. The hidden organization waiting to strike our societies is an illusion. There is no terror network. It doesn't exist - just as 9/11 didn't exist either.

>I'm curious, have you read any of Saint Malachy's prophecies?
