IMO, its difficult to compare bug stats across organizations. Every organization has its own culture and what one org classifies as a bug, another org or even development group within the same org would not classify as a bug.

I think the only way to effectively measure how you're doing is to decide on the metrics your org is going to use, and then monitor your progress compared to yourself.
