You are probably (and most likely) right. The guy on the phone told me what sounded like "Pro forma" but I thought I misheard him and sort of changed the wording. Thank you for catching my mistake.
Typically my invoice says "Invoice #" on the top. Do I understand correctly that it should say "Pro Forma Invoice #" or "pro forma" is simply implied?

>Do you mean "Pro forma" invoice perhaps? It is an invoice which is presented prior to the actual order being placed. It allows the recipient to show their accounts department that it is a valid expense that the person wants finance approval for. Then the order is placed and the actual invoice issued. The pro forma invoice can be the same as your normal invoice but with those words printed on it and it does not raise an entry in your books.

>>Could anyone share a sample copy of a Performance Invoice? Or explain in detail how it should be structured? I have never done business this way but this prospective customer wants what they call a Performance Invoice first. I understand it to be an invoice where I will define what they will get if they pay the invoice.
