I have two cards, one made by CompUSA another by Belkin. The PC is AMD-K6 3D Processor 533 Mhz. The CompUSA card says it is compatible with Pent II and AMD-K6. Both cards say in their manuals that for XP the driver should be already installed. I don't mind spending more money (considering how much time I spent on this, I could buy a new computer :)). I know that Adaptec is a very reputable name but at this time I am reluctant to make another trip to the store to return, buy, then maybe again to return. But thank you for your suggestion, I may do that in the end anyway.

>Who makes the card. I added an Adaptec USB 2.0 card to a Pent III PC running Win 2000 with the driver that was built into Windows, and it was very inexpensive and trouble free. I would think adding it to a XP box would be even less trouble.

>I also like the software that came with it. It could make out a map of what was plugged into where (Complete with pretty little pictures), if the device was USB 1 or 2, and if it saw problems. The software did not care if the card was Adaptecs or not because it also told me about the USB 1 ports built in.

>If possible, I'd consider returning it and getting an Adaptec one. I just looked on Best Buys page and a 2 port card is $30. The 6 port is $50. I have the 6 port one and I think I paid ariound $30 on line, but that was a while back and I'm not 100% sure on that.

>You might be able to go to Adaptecs web site and download their software I mentioned. It wouldn't fix the problem, but it might give you more info.

>>I want to add USB 2.0 port to a PC that is about 4 years old. The PC is running XP PRO SP1. I bought a 2 Port PCI USB 2.0 card (actually bought two cards of different makes with the same negative results).
>>
>>When I install the card into an open PCI slot, the computer recognizes the new hardware. In the Hardware Device Manager I see all new items without exclamation marks, all as it shows in the manual should be.
>>
>>But when I plug an external DVD drive to this new USB 2.0 port it is not recognized. The computer detects that something is plugged but it says that Device is not recognized.
>>
>>Last night I installed all existing updates from the MSFT web site for the XP SP 1 (I was trying to bring it up to SP 1A but am not sure if I was successful since in the PC properties it still shows SP 1).
>>
>>Does anyone know how to download just the USB 2.0 Driver for XP PRO?
>>Or if you think of anything else I could do, please let me know.
>>Thank you.
