When I work with either Excel or Word on something like this, I always try it first within the host environment before trying to use the OLE automation. I also tend to cheat and do the process in word and record a macro as I do it. The macro becomes the basis for the code I write in VFP.
This method has not failed me yet.
Out of curiosity, why are you creating a mail merge data file with COPY TO DELIMITED? Word should be able to read a free table with no problem... that's how I have traditionally done it.
