Still the same thing. The fact that it locks up when I try to setfocus() to the control is probably a clue to what I have done wrong. I'll just have to go through the code line by line. I can use the slider or scrollbar fine on a blank form it's only when i drop it on my main form that it disappears. Thanks for the help everyone and when I find the mistake I will post if in case someone else comes up against the same problem.
