Efficiency is one fact. VFP programming functionality (lack of data type, etc.) is another fact. I don't think it does well with text either. It is great to deal with a string, but for an EDI transaction file it probably doesn't seem that way. On top of all these, other considerations like portability, future extension could be the additional concerns as VFP's future is not clear. Having said that, I might still use VFP for this project, as I have some old code for the ASCx12 EDI in VFP.
