Indeed, but this isn't a new phenomenon. I fought it with Foxpro 1.x/2.0 for DOS. <g> (Seriously! I didn't get management off my back about using FP until they realized that two FP developers were outperforming an office of 20 C/C++ coders down the hall.)
It's tougher today, and quite a bit more common. But it's certainly nothing new.
