>Maybe I am misunderstanding your suggestion. But, in my backup routine I copy all files from the desktop folder. This way, if I ever need to recreate a shortcut, they are all on my backup media. Why would I need to move the shortcuts to My Document folder?

If you include the desktop in your backup, you don't need any adjustments.

Personally, I keep all my documents in c:\files, and make the backup from there - so I have to do some adjustments, including the one I explained. Another adjustment I need is to change the place where Outlook Express stores its data files.
