>Is it possible to place a bunch of desktop shortcuts into a group? I have a million of shortcuts on my desktop and want to hide some (until I need to use them). For example, I have a shortcut for TurboTax 2000, TurboTax 2001, and so on. I would like to place them all in one "group" shortcut, if I ever need to access them.

Hi Dmitry,

Along the lines Hilmar suggested, I maintain a subtree of categorized URL links using the Windows filing system. By keeping this tree free of anything but links, it stays compact (i.e. highly compressible), so it can be backed up regularly in .ZIP file form. I avoid putting this on my primary C: partition, because I try to keep data apart from the leanest possible Windows + installed programs partition, for the sake of portability and image backups.

Of course I would be remiss if I failed to mention using Montage for managing Shortcuts, in combination with the aforementioned subtree of URL links. Montage gives me more control to massage everything related to a given topic into the most convenient form for working on a particular task or activity and coming back to it later, or jumping between related activities. Essentially, Montage provides a souped-up model of Windows shortcuts, not as a replacement, but an extension that lets you to continue working with the same programs and documents you're accustomed to.
