There is nothing like Code Camp. I just do not want to be taken to task for drifting a bit off target! :)

Speaking of small pox, this is an interesting story.

There was a British General named Amherst, who fought the French during the Seven Year War (French Indian War), in North America. Indians fought with the French as the French treaded the Indians fairly and with respect.

Upon the defeat of the French, General Amherst placed Irish and Scots in charge of the frontier. Part of their job was to interact with the Indians. General Amherst had no use for Celt’s and this was an opportunity to get rid of them. The Irish and Scots got along well with the Indians, and the area was peaceful.

As the French had done before them, the Celt’s would invite Indians into their homes to have dinner. When General Amherst heard how these Celt’s were behaving he immediately sent good Englishmen to replace the Celt’s. Indians were no longer allowed to enter the home of an Englishman or even into the trading posts. All dealings with the Indians had to be done out of doors.

One of the acts of General Amherst, which endear him to history, is that he hated the Indians so much that he knowingly sent blankets infected with small pox to be given to the Indians. Many Indians perished from this act due to the disease.

We honor General Amherst by having named a city and university in Massachusetts after him.

>>>Wasn't that something to do with an English milk maid who had cow-pox on her arms and stuff? She didn't suffer from smallpox or something. They gave a sample of her pox to some kid and he lived through smallpox. Bit vague the memory but essentially along those lines. :-)
