I'm not trying to start an argument - I realize this will always be a very hot topic, but I would like to throw out the following:

I lived in Atlanta from 1990 to 1994 - and it was the most eye-opening experience in my life. While I still believe strongly in accountability and responsible behavior, living there for nearly four years really adjusted my moral compass.

I did contract work for Grady Memorial hospital. One day I spoke to a girl who was 13 years old, 7 months pregnant, and HIV positive. It was the closest I've ever come to breaking down at work. Whatever I worried about at age 13, that sure wasn't one of them.

To me, the term 'innocent victim' is little more than a verbal veneer, behind which one plays cynical games. OK, there are people at the one end of the spectrum - people who contracted the disease through transfusions, surgeries, hemopheliacs, etc....and people at the other extreme...those who know the risks and decide to play russian roulette with not only their lives but the lives of others.

But in between is a large # of people who might have made one mistake, committed one or a few indiscretions, have stories that can't easily be catalogued, and are paying the ultimate price. So where is the line drawn?

I agree, I pray for a vaccine (and vaccines for all sorts of things)
