Actually, your idea is not a bad one at all. If you sit them in front of VFP and give them a small set of requirements to fullfil (something that could be done inside an hour for instance by any experienced developer) then allow them to do it, you can learn alot about how they approach it, what syntax and guidelines they adhere to, do they create classes, etc...


>Sit them in front of a PC with VFP on it...and ask them to make a tiny rolodex screen, and to subclass a few buttons in it. Give them some specs to work with (contacts table, grid, etc.) If they can't do that... RUN!
