I don't know of original problem. I simply got the question as "is xBase always faster". There are places where xBase prefarable over SQL but there are places for just the reverse.
With SQL HDD lights going on and staying like that + unresponsive after sometime suggests it's doing a lot of disk swap and system resources are low (and VFP wise SQL might be something not optimized - ie: an unintentional full join instead of inner).
Do you have a specific SQL or xBAse code causing headache?
