In addition to a set of VFP related questions and problems, I would ask some general problem solving questions (IQ questions). This will help determine the persons problem solving skills. I read somewhere that M$ has a set of "impossible" questions as a part of their interview process. Questions like: How many quarters would you have to stack on top of each other to reach the same height as the Empire State building? If a person were to answer that is a silly question they would simply dismiss the person, but if the person would start making some assumptions about the height of the empire state building and the thickness of a quarter they would more the person to the next "impossible" question.
My last interview was about 10 hours (1 hour phone interview and a 9 hour in-person interview). Think of hiering a person as an investment and spend a lot of time with your investment before you make your decision also allow other programmers, support staff meet the person and listen to their input.

Anywho just my $0.02 (for a person who has never hired anyone yet, but I think I will have to in the ver near future so I will have to start thinking about this myself)
