They have MSDN Universal, so they already have VSS. So price is not a factor.
I can't imagine working without a source control software anymore, even for a one guy shop, but breaking old habits when you are new in the place is not an easy task.
I will follow your suggestions and do some lookup for articles on the subject in the web.
