OK Jim since many have tossed in their 2c I will too. The original post by Kevin gives no indication as to the motive for the posting. It would appear innocent enough. My only comment at that point would be "so what?". Been there, discussed that - in short, boring. Plus, the observations of DavidF are obviously true and the results pointless, but even so, boring anyway.

However, in a subsequent reply to DavidF, Message #1012572, Kevin ends off with:

"Maybe you can attend an MSDN event and see how many are actively using Fox, as a % of the other tools mentioned? "

And unfortunately I think this is the rub. This is really the purpose of the original post - to hammer home once again the point about VFP's position in the programming world, and hence its posting in the VFP forum.

I suspect that substituting "VFP" for any other language not in the top 5 or 10 and posting this in a forum dedicated to that other language would garner the exact same response and irritation from the forum participants. Why was this original url link not posted in the .Net forum if the info is so useful?

I think the subject is boring. I think these types of posts contribute nothing. They create nothing of value. They serve only to destroy.

Furthermore, I think the banning of Claude is completely wrong. His reaction is not really unexpected or even out of the ordinary for any one of us. We are all human, we all make mistakes, we all react emotionally sometimes. So what? And since these issues always take "two to tango" what about the other side of the arguments? Or is one party(s) 100% wrong and the other(s) 100% right? If not, then the UT reaction is unfair and must be reversed or applied to all involved.

I find this observation interesting: The banning of both WilliamS and ClaudeF were (a) done in threads within the VFP forums (b) were done by pro-VFP developers trying to promote and defend VFP (c) were in response to endless arguments and bickering with pro .Net developers who (d) appear to have a lot of time on their hands to engage in these discussions in (e) the VFP sections of these forums.

I think that losing two such vocal and eager VFP enthusiasts who have offered help to so many is a loss to the VFP community and to the UT specifically. With each vocal VFP enthusiast like WilliamS and ClaudeF and apparently ToreB, leaving the UT the value of the UT diminishes proportionally to VFP developers.

I suggest that the UT offer the same second-chance that was given to JVP after he was banned the first time. Surely his comments were no less or more grievous than those made by WilliamS or ClaudeF?

>>Update: just seen how old this post is. Have been away for a week. Not looking to restart a rehashed and tired thread.
